BANK SPECIFIC FACTORS AFFECTING PROFITABILITY IN BANKING SECTOR: A STUDY ON PRIVATE CAPITAL DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS OPERATING IN TURKEY

The banking sector is one of the most sensitive sectors that play an important role in national economies. Therefore, the profitability of banks is an important factor for sustainable economies. The profitability of banks can be affected by bank-specific (internal) factors and macroeconomic (external) factors. In this study, between the years 2008-2018 the profitability of some private banks operating in Turkey is to be evaluated. In this study, the effects of internal factors such as the size of banks, liquidity, capital adequacy, deposit and cost efficiency on the profitability of banks were examined by multiple regression analysis method. As a result of the study, it is understood that cost effectiveness and capital adequacy variables have an effect on the profitability of commercial banks. In addition, empirical results have been reached indicating that other variables such as size, deposit ratio and liquidity have no significant effect on profitability.
