Self Actualization Inventory

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factorial and concurrent validity of a new inventory ofSelf Actualization (SAI). The concurrent validity of the SAI was examined by comparing it with (Derogatis) Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI). The results of PCFA revealed 6 factors of self actualization which were named; a) life consciousness, b) perception of reality, c) interpersonal relationship, d) positive loneliness, e) self acceptance, and f) autonomy.Self actualization factors have also been examined through confirmatory factor analysis by employing EQS 6. To explore the relation-ship among the subscales of the SAI and the BSI subscales, a Pearson Product-Moment correlation was performed. Negative and significant relationships have been found among the subscales of the SAI and the BSI. The new Inventory (SAI) was developed by Çetinkanat based on Maslow’s theory and his self-actualization model. Overall reliability index for the SAI was α=.90. The sample of the study was academics of 29 Faculties of Education in Turkey (n=267). The overall correlation coefficient between the SAI and the BSI was - .374 (p 0.01).
