Clinical Findings And Treatment Manifestations Of Temporomandibular Disorders In Children And Young Adults: Review Of The Literature

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a term used to refer to the problem characterized by a series of clinical signs and symptoms involving masticatory muscles, the joints and associated surrounding tissues. The prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in children and adolescent varies in the literature. A routine dental examination of temporomandibular joint and masticatory system should be done to identify subjects at high risk of having TMD. The temporomandibular joint and masticatory system is complex and, thus, requires a thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the structural, vascular, and neurological components in order to manage TMD. The aim of this article was to review the literature about temporomandibular disorders and their relationships in children and adolescents.
