Hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome together with molluscum contagiosum and cidofovir in the therapy

Autosomal-recessive hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome (AR-HIES) is a rare inborn disorder characterized by recurrent skin and respiratory tract infections, chronic eczema and elevated serum IgE. Severe viral infections with molluscum contagiosum, herpes zoster and herpes simplex are reported with AR-HIES. Herein, we present an 8- year- old boy. The diagnosis of AR-HIES was made on the basis of recurrent pneumonia, disseminated molluscum contagiosum, positive family history and elevated serum concentrations of IgE. Molluscum contagiosum lesions of this patient was successfully treated with cidofovir.
