Increase in serum lithium levels induced by perindopril use: a case report
Lithium is widely used for the acute and prophylactic treatment of bipolar disorders. Blood levels of lithium must be monitored regularly because of the low therapeutic index. Combination treatments for comorbid general medical conditions may increase lithium levels and intoxication symptoms can be seen. Interactions particularly with non-steroid anti-inflammatory medicines, thiazide diuretics, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are common. In this case report, increase in serum lithium levels after perindopril prescription for hypertension in a patient with bipolar disorder type II treated with lithium for 17 years was presented.
