Finger and palm prints in patients with stomach cancer: A dermatoglypic study
Objective: in this study, the relationship benveen stomach cancer and dermatoglyphics is investigated by comparing the dermatoglyphic patterns of fınger and palms of stomach cancer patients with the control group. Material and Method: The fınger prints and palm prints of 26 patients with stomach cancer were compared with those of 50 controls (25 male, 25 female)that have no history of any malignant disease. The dermatoglyphic patterns from fingertips and palms of patients and controls were recorded on a paper. Analysis of dermatoglypic patterns was realized with a magnifıer and a stereoscopic microscope. Results: Whorl types of female patients, ulnar loops and total fınger ridge count on the fingertips of male patients with stomach cancer, were more compared with those of the control cases. Furthermore, interdigital III loops of the patients were less, interdigital IV, hypothenar H loops and t' triradii were more. The frequency of the termination of the palmar A line in number 4 was more than controls. Conclusion: Statistically signifıcant differences on the fınger and palm prints of cases with stomach cancer in comparison with the controls were observed especially with regards to their disribution and patterns on digital, interdigital and hypothenar areas
