Effects of dıgıt ratıo of master athletes on sportıng achıevement levels
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the effects of digit ratio of male and female master athletes on sporting achievement levels and body mass index. Materyal and method: Data were collected from 122 master athletes (n=90 males and n=32 females). The digit ratios in both hands by a caliper; heights and weights of athletes were measured and body mass index was calculated. Data were evaluated statistically by SPSS 15.0 program. Results: High testosterone ratio was found on the female and male athletes’ both fingers. However, the results did not indicate the significant differences between right and left hand digit ratios of female and male athletes. In addition, there were no correlation between body mass index and the right and left hand digit ratios in all athletes. When the comparing the right hand and left hand digit ratios of 1st athletes and the other athletes, there were no significant difference in terms of testosterone dominance. It was found to be 1st women athletes had estrogen dominant digit ratio and the other women athletes had testosteron dominant digit ratio. It was found no significant difference in terms of testosterone dominance on the right and left hand digit ratio between 1st and the other athletes. Conclusion: We believe this study will contribute to the future studies as it introduces the digit ratio, which is a new and simple method of measurement, in addition to the existing criteria and will be suitable and useful in the selection of qualified athletes.
