In her last novel `Love', Toni Morrison questions the primacy of men in women's lives by creating two women friends, who consider their friendship a secondary relationship, which is in fact vital to their survival. The novel focuses on Bill .Cosey, the owner of the holiday resort for black people in Florida. The people around him love him as a father, lover, husband, friend or son, however, among these kinds of love none is as strong and deep as Heed and Christine's. Their friendship grows after a long period of stalling because both share the love of the same man. It is only during their reunion just before Heed's unexpected death that they confess their love for each other and compare it with the other kinds of love they experienced and which failed to last. Morrison's description of love between friends resembles to the Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega Y.Gasset's ideas on love. In true love Morrison and Gasset portray, we feel we are eternally unified with the object we love.
