Türkiye'de meslek eğitimi alanındaki önemli gelişmeler 20.yy'ın ortalarına doğru başlamıştır. 1950'ler meslek okullarında çeşitliğin fazla olduğu yıllardır. Bu dönemde Türkiye'nin önemli kentlerinden olan Izmir'de daha çok sanat enstitüleri vardır. Bunlar merkez ve çeşitli ilçelere dağılmış durumdadır. Diğer yandan İzmir önemli bir ticaret kenti olduğu için, ticaret okulları bakımından da oldukça zengindir. Bunlardan Özel Akşam Ticaret Lisesi Türkiye'de ilktir. Yine Türkiye genelinde ilk olarak Izmir'de açılan diğer bir meslek okulu Motor Makine Enstitüsü'dür. Ancak bu yıllarda Izmir'in meslek eğitiminde, en önemli eksiği öğretmen yetiştiren kurumlardır. Kızılçullu Köy Enstitüsü'nün kapanmasından sonra bu konuda uzun yıllar önemli bir adım atılmamıştır. İzmir genelindeki meslek eğitimi kurumlarının sayısı 1950 yılında 10 iken, bu sayı 1960 yılında 18'e yükselmiş, diğer yandan okul türü açısından da bir artış yaşanmıştır.

The important developments in vocational education in Turkey started in the middle of 20 century. In 1950s, there were several types of vocational high schools in Turkey. İzmir, which was one of important cities of Turkey, had more art institutes in those years. Some of these institutes were in the towns; some of them were in the centre of city. On the other hand, because Izmir is an important trade city, it had many trade schools. Private Nigh Trade High School was the first type in Turkey. Motor Machine Institute which was opened in Izmir was another first school around Turkey. Nevertheless, the most important deficient of Izmir in vocational high schools was Teacher Schools. After closing Kızılçullu Village Institute, almost nothing happened in these years. However, the nıımber of vocational high schools around İzmir was 10 in 1950 that number became 18 in 1960. On the other hand, Izmir got an increase about the type of schools.
