Merton's Starin Theory: Evidence from the High Schools in Ankara

Bu çalışma, Ankara'daki lise öğrencilerinin sapma davranışlarını (yaralama, okul ile ilgili sapma davranışları, kamuyu rahatsız edici davranışlar ve çeşitli ufak suçlar) farklı sosyo-ekonomik bağlamlar (değişik semtler) içinde Merton'ın gerilim teorisinin ne derece açıklayıcı olacağı sorusuna cevap aramaya çalışmaktadır. İki aşamalı tabakalı kümeli örneklem kullanarak, 1,710 öğrenciyi kapsayan bir örneklem lise öğrencileri evreninden elde edildi. Kendi kendine cevaplamaya dayalı soru kağıdı, 2001 yılında öğrencilerden bilgi edinmek için kullanıldı. Araştırma bulguları, Merton'ın gerilim teorisinin yaralama, okul ile ilgili sapma davranışları, kamuyu rahatsız edici davranışlar ve çeşitli küçük suçlar hiç veya az bir açıklayıcı güce sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.

Merton'ın Gerilim Teorisi: Ankara'daki Liselerden Deliller

This study tries to answer the question that to what extent Merton's strain theory accounts for the juvenile delinquent behaviors (e.g., assault, school delinquency, public disturbance, and miscellaneous minor offenses) of the high school students in various socio-economic contexts (e.g., various districts) in Ankara. By using two-stage stratified cluster sampling, a sample of 1,710 students was drawn from the population of the high school students. A self-administered questionnaire was used to retrieve information from students in 2001. The findings suggest that Merton's strain theory has no or little explanatory power on assault, school delinquency, public disturbance, and miscellaneous minor offenses.
