Depresyon ve D Vitamini

Uzun yıllar kemik sağlığını koruyucu özelliği ile bilinen D vitamininin, son yıllarda kemik sağlığı dışında da sağlık üzerine birçok etkisinin olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Yapılan araştırmalar, D vitamini eksikliğinin duygudurum bozukluklarının etiyolojisinde de rol alabileceğine işaret etmektedir. D vitamini reseptörlerinin (VDR) beyinde birçok bölgede bulunması bu ilişkiyi desteklemektedir. Epidemiyolojik çalışmalar da, depresyonu olan bireylerde serum 25-hidroksi D vitamini (25(OH)D) düzeylerinin düşük olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu derleme çalışmada, depresyon ve D vitamini arasındaki ilişki mevcut literatür ışığında ele alınmıştır.

Depression and Vitamin D

For long years vitamin D was known with its function on bone protection. However, in recent years it has been stated that there are lots of extra-bone effects. Studies show that vitamin D deficiency may have a role in the etiology of mood disorders. Discovering vitamin D receptors (VDR) in the multiple parts of the brain supports this relationship. Epidemiological studies also show that serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels are low in people with depression. In this review article, the relationship between vitamin D and depression was reviewed using the current literature.
