Market Reaction to CEO Turnover In The Banks Evidences From Turkey
This paper aims to examine whether there is a stock market reaction to the announcement of CEO turnover in the Turkish banks. The impact of 13 “clean” CEO turnover announcements from the beginning of 2010 to the end of 2019 on the share prices of the banks traded in Borsa Istanbul has been analyzed by the Event Study method. The results show that, in general, Turkish stock market reacts positively to CEO turnovers in the banks just on the announcement day with a small but statistically significant positive abnormal return of 0.662%. However, market reacts to CEO turnovers of the state owned banks in a different way. Although CEO turnover causes a positive abnormal return of 0,812 % on the share prices of private and foreign owned banks for the announcement day, it changes state owned banks’ shares unfavorably (negative) with an abnormal return of 1,581 % for 3 days window (t0, t+2).
