Küresel Kriz Sonrasında Türkiye’de Para Politikasının Banka Karlılığı Üzerindeki Etkisi

Bu çalışma, küresel kriz sonrasında Türkiye’de uygulanan geleneksel olmayan para politikasının bankaların karlılığı üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu çerçevede, 2011-2017 dönemi için faiz oranlarının bankaların alternatif karlılık göstergeleri üzerindeki etkisi ve çeşitli bankaya özgü özelliklerin para politikası değişikliklerine karşı banka performansı üzerinde farklı sonuçlara yol açıp açmadığı araştırılmaktadır. Çalışmanın sonuçları, net faiz gelirleri ve faiz dışı gelirlerin para politikasındaki daralmalardan asimetrik şekilde etkilendiğini, ancak net faiz gelirlerindeki artışın faiz dışı gelirler üzerindeki negatif etkiyi ortadan kaldırarak, daha yüksek faiz oranlarının banka karlılığını arttırdığını ortaya koymaktadır. Büyüklük, sermaye düzeyi ve likidite, para politikası şoklarının bankaların gelir bileşenleri ve karlılıkları üzerinde yarattığı etkilerin farklılaşmasında rol oynayan özellikler olarak bulunmuştur.

The Impact of Monetary Policy on Bank Profitability in Turkey in the Aftermath of the Global Crisis

This study aims to investigate the impacts of unconventional monetary policy on bank profitability in Turkey in the aftermath of global financial crisis. In this regard, the impact of interest rates on alternative profitability measures and its heterogeneous effects depending on bank’s balance sheet characteristics are examined covering the period 2011-2017. Net interest income and noninterest income are found to be asymmetrically affected by the monetary policy tightening, while the positive impact on net interest income more than compensates the adverse effect on noninterest income, resulting in an increase on overall profitability. Moreover, bank size, capitalization and liquidity are found as significant bank balance sheet characteristics that matter for the heterogeneous transmission of monetary policy to bank income components and profitability.
