Effects of Vitamin E and Selenium Combination on Oxidative Response in Lambs Vaccinated Against Caseous Lymphadenitis

Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of vitamin E and selenium (Se) combination on the oxidative response in lambs vaccinated against caseous lymphadenitis (CLA). For this purpose, 40 healthy female Akkaraman lambs, aged two-month-old, unvaccinated against the CLA were used. Lambs were randomly divided into 4 equal groups. Group I: Control, Group II: Vaccine; Group III: Vitamin E+Se; Group IV: Vaccine + Vitamin E+Se. Blood samples were collected from the lambs on days zero and 21st. In order to determine the oxidative response, catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities, as well as malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) levels were measured.
