Öz Özet: Çalışmada önce, kavramsal açıdMl ele alınan egitimin iktisadigelişme üzerindeki etkileri ve katkıları incelenmiştir. Türk eğitim sistemiiçerisinde yükseköğretimin yeri belirlenerek, Atatürk Üniversitesi'nin 43yıllık tarihsel evrimi verilmiştir. Üniversitesi'nin mevcut altyapısı(akademik birimleri, ögretim ve idari personel kadrosu, bilgi kaynagı,yayınları, kültürel ve sanatsal faaliyetleri, sağlık hizmetleri ve üretimfaaliyetleri) dikkate alınarak, Erzurum'un ekonomik ve sosyal yaşantısınakatkıları tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.
