Concomitant rhinocerebral and pulmonary mucormycosis and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in a pancytopenic patient
Mucormycosis is a rare and often fatal invasive fungal infection. While disseminated or pulmonary forms are common in patients with immune insufficiency, rhinocerebral form is common in diabetes mellitus patients. In this paper we present a case with rhinocerebral and pulmonary mucormycosis and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in a 50-year old female patient who received chemotherapy due to haematological malignancy. The patient was lost in spite of appropriate antifungal therapy. Rhinocerebral and pulmonary mucormycosis and concomittant pulmonary aspergillosis is a very rare case. Despite aggressive medical and surgical treatment mortality rates are high.
