Adherence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae to human alveolar macrophages

Attachment to alveoler macrophages of M. pneumoniae M129 strain which is HA positive and glass-.adhering and M. pneumoniae FH strain which does not show these features was investigated by ELISA. It was determined that the glass-adhering, and HA pozitive M. pneumoniae M 129 strain was attached more to human alveoler macrophages when compared with the non glass-adhering and HA negative M. pneumoniae FH strain and the treatment of the bacteria with normal human serum was enhanced the attachment of both strain. In this study, it was concluded that the human alveoler macrophages may elicit a protective response agaiııst M. pneumoniae infection, and ELISA is easy and simple method in adherence and phagocytosis studies.
