Disinfection of nutrient solution in soilless culture

Soil-borne diseases are disappeared in soilless culture. However root diseases can be seen in soilless culture in particularly in closed systems, where the nutrient solution is recycled. There- is a need for disinfecting the nutrient solution in closed systems due to the high risk of dispersal of root-infecting pathogens. Disinfection of nutrient solution can be done by active (heat treatment, ozonation. UV-radialion, membrane filtration, activated hydrogen peroxide, iodination) and passive (slow sand filtration) methods.
