The Effect of Organizational Spirituality and Psychological Capital on Emotional Labor and Coping With Stress

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of organizational spirituality and psychological capital on emotional labor and coping with stress in a sample of health professionals. After the literature review, the concept of emotional labor was examined especially in the sample of service sector employees. Because of that, the sample was chosen from the health professionals who were in contact with the patient. The sample was selected randomly and applied to the accessible study group by face-to-face survey method. A total of 262 healthcare professionals participated in the study. The emotional labor scale which was adapted to Turkish by Basım and Begenirbaş (2012), the coping with stress styles scale which was adapted to Turkish by Şahin and Durak (1995), the psychological capital scale which was adapted to Turkish by Çetin and Basım (2012) and the organizational spirituality scale developed by Petchsawang and Duchon (2009) in Asian context was used in the study. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 package program. As a result of the research, it was seen that there was a statistically significant, high-level positive relationship between psychological capital and organizational spirituality. While no significant relationship was found between emotional labor and other variables; it has been determined that coping with stress has a positive relationship with organizational spirituality and psychological capital.
