Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’ın Huzur Adlı Romanının İngilizce Tercümesi Üzerine Eleştirel Bir İnceleme / A Critical Study into the English Translation of Huzur, a Novel by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar
Erdağ Göknar tarafından İngilizceye “A Mind at Peace” ismiyle çevrilmiştir.
hedefidir.
A Critical Study into the English Translation of Huzur, a Novel by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar
Ahmet Hamdi TANPINAR, one of
the leading figures of Turkish Literature, is well-known for his novels, essays
and poems in Turkey. However, he could not achieve the acclaim he deserved
during his lifetime. But, since 1970s, both in his native country and in
international arena, there has been an increasing interest in his literary
works. And especially in recent years,
thanks to the support of “Translation and Publication Grant Program of Turkey”
(TEDA), his works have become among the most prominent translated works of
Turkish Literature. One of his most important novels, “Huzur” was translated
into English by Turkish American academician Erdağ GÖKNAR with the title “A
Mind at Peace” in 2008. The main concern of this study is to make a comparative
and scientific analysis of the source and the target texts. In this study, “the
model of comparative analysis” by Raymond Van Den Broeck has been adopted. The
main objective of the study is indeed to find out to what extent lexical
variety and richness of the source text, poetic lines, commonly used metaphors
by the author, cultural elements, descriptions with spatial and spiritual
depth, as well as the literary approach of the author could be transferred into
the target language and text.
