Root Canal Morphology of Mandibular and Maxillar Canine Teeth in the Van Population: A Cone Beam Computed Tomography Study

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the root canal morphology of mandibular and maxillary canine teeth by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the Van population. CBCT images taken from 501 patients were used for the morphological evaluation of mandibular and maxillary canines. In total, 2004 canine teeth (1002 mandibular and 1002 maxillary) were evaluated. Images were analyzed in coronal, sagittal and axial directions. Root numbers, canal numbers and canal configurations of the teeth were determined according to the Vertucci classification. The effect of gender and tooth position on each variable was evaluated. Data were analyzed using Chi-square and Bonferroni tests (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant effect of the position of the tooth on the root number, canal number and canal configuration in the maxillary and mandibular canines. According to gender, the ratio of one canal and two canals (p=0.008) and type Ⅰ, type Ⅲ canal structures (p=0.021) were statistically higher in women in the madibular canines. Single root, single canal and Vertucci type I were identified as the main and typical features of mandibular and maxillary canines. However, the presence of second root, second canal and different canal configurations, especially in the mandibular canines, was remarkable.
