The müslim brotherhood in politics in egypt: From moderation to authoritarianism?

The Arab Spring has given the Muslim Brotherhood (known in Arabic as al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun), one of the oldest, largest and most influential Islamist organizations in the world, its long-waited opportunity to exert its influence on Egyptian politics. Following the collapse ofHosni Mubarak regime, the election of the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate Mohammed Morsi to the presidency of Egypt in June 2012, has started a new debate on whether this new regime will be able to bring democracy to Egypt or not. This article, by mainly examining moderate features of the Muslim Brotherhood, aims at analyzing its impact on the current Egyptian politics to predict whether it will be able to continue its moderate tendencies or not.
