HALİDE EDİP ADIVAR ESERLERİNDE SAPTANAN GÜÇLÜ İFADE ÖRNEKLERİ

Türk yazın tarihinin en kuvvetli kadın kalemlerinden olan Halide Edip'in eserlerinden seçilmiş örnekler makalemizin esasını teşkil etmektedir. Batmakta olan dev bir İmparatorluğun çalkantıları, Kurtuluş Savaşı'na katılma heyecanı ve sancıları onun son derece kuvvetli ifadesiyle ve lirik söyleyişiyle tadına doyulmaz bir anlatımla eserlerinde hayat bulur. Yazımızda Halide Edip Adıvar'ın yukarıda zikrettiğimiz konularla beraber yaşamının evreleri ve kadın ruhunun hissedişlerini de kuşatan eserlerinin bazılarından alınmış örnekleri ahenkli şekilde sıralayan bir derleme oluşturulmuştur. Yazımızın başında öncelikle çocukluk hatıraları ve o dönemin kendisine yaptığı etkiler ile ilgili alıntılar vardır. Burada vakıf olduğumuz bilgiler ile olayların küçük Halide üzerindeki etkileri bizi ruhsal ve maddi bağlamda bilgiler dünyasına sürükler. Sonrasında yetişmiş bir aydın genç kadının karmaşık siyasal hareketler ortasındaki etkilenmeleri mevcuttur. Kendisinin kültürlü ve etkili şahsiyeti çevresindeki olaylara müdahil oluşunu şüphesiz etkili kılacaktır. Alıntılarımızın en etkili bölümleri onun eğitimci ve idareci yönü ile Milli Mücadeleye katılma konusundaki cesur hamlelerinde kendisini gösterir. Gerçi bu sıra dışı insanın hayatının hemen her bölümü gıpta edilecek çalışma ve vatana duyulan sevginden kaynaklanan eylemlerle kaplanmıştır, örnek alınacak fikir ve davranışlardır bunlar. Şartların en olumsuz şekilde cereyan ettiği zamanların insanlarından olan Halide Edip yaşadığı bu zor dönemin insanı olma başarısını gösterebilmesiyle gözümüzde yücelir. Bu söylediğimiz cümlenin peşinden gelen tamamlayıcı fikir de şudur: kahramanımız, eylemleri kadar düşüncelerini, duygularını ifade etme konusunda yani yazdıklarıyla, toplumu etkileme kabiliyetiyle üstünlük arz eder, dileğimiz tüm bu irdelediğimiz konuları mümkün mertebe ortaya koyabilme amacına yöneliktir. Sonuç olarak; yazımızda Halide Edip Adıvar'ın yukarıda zikrettiğimiz konularla beraber yaşamının evreleri ve kadın ruhunun hissedişlerini de kuşatan eserlerinin bazılarından alınmış örnekleri ahenkli şekilde sıralayan bir derleme oluşturulmuştur

IMPACTFUL EXPRESSIONS FROM THE LITERARY WORKS OFHALİDE EDİP ADIVAR

Halide Edip is a distinguished author of Turkish literature with her unique expression of feelings, her strong character, and her influential writing style. In our article we would like to introduce her to the readers with selected pieces from her works. Necessary explanations are also provided throughout this article so that the examples make the most sense to readers. Childhood memories, ideological discussions, political problems of homeland, and psychological analysis of women were common subjects in her articles and novels. Here, some impactful examples were provided to demonstrate her strong ability as a talented writer. Her lyric words described powerfully how an empire was going down and how she became a part of rescuing fatherland. Also we will see examples how she masterfully explained her emotional world during all the turmoil in the surrounding. Halide Edip was an author who was strongly influenced by the Western education she got in her early ages. As a voracious reader she got through all the classics of Western literature and she was able to articulate them in a unique and original style in her later works. Besides, she was a skillful public speaker. During the starting days of the national struggle she addressed to a large audience in Sultan Ahmet Square where she condemned the occupation of Izmir by Greek armed forces. Many critiques agree that her speech was so powerful that many people from the audience was so inspired that they decided to join the national forces forming in Central Anatolia. This is a clear indication that she was a master of transforming ideas into real life motion. Although she got immersed into Western culture so young she was able to retain her nationalistic and religious feelings. It can be claimed that these feelings were developed as a reaction to her vulnerability towards Western culture. As a nationalist and religious woman but also modernistic woman figure she was undoubtedly a new line of thought in Ottoman Society of 20th century. After the World War I she participated actively to the National Struggle as a soldier next to Mustafa Kemal Pasha, leader of the National Movement. She shared Mustafa Kemal's vision of fully independent Turkey as she realized how imminent the collapse of Ottoman Empire was. After the successful ending of the National Movement, however, Mustafa Kemal Pasha and Halide Edip's views strongly diverged. Halide Edip's attachment to Eastern roots hindered to support pro-Western reforms imposed by Mustafa Kemal Pasha during the first years of newly established Turkish Republic. This leads her voluntary exile in London over a decade. Being apart from her beloved country she was home sick yet she still produced a large body of literary work during her London years. After Mustafa Kemal's death in 1938 she was invited back to Turkey as an appointed professor in Istanbul University by Inonu administration. She was involved with academic activities and it can be observed toward the end of her life there is an unprecedented reconciliation with the fundamental ideas of the modern Turkey. Basically, she witnessed that reforms did not lead to the eradication of the Eastern culture altogether rather there was a unique combination of both Eastern and Western traditions adopted by the new country. In the beginning of our article, we will provide references from the memories of the author and what kind of an impact that period had on her style. Information we inferred from these references as well as events taking place provide clues how little Halide was affected by her environment psychologically. Myriad of her memories she acquired during her childhood constituted the basis of her several later works. Large families with a plethora of people interaction as well as the colorful social life of a big empire nourished her world of emotions, knowledge and observations as she was growing up. As mentioned before owing to her well-education she was situated in the center of many political movements and events. Her charisma certainly increased her involvement in many historical actions developing around her. Most impactful references from her works reside in sections that reveal how she courageously participated to the National Movement formed against the occupiers in Anatolia. Actually, most of her life story is composed of such brave actions which most of our readers would like to take example of. Conditions of her lifetime were dire, despite that, Halide Edip was successful in dealing with them and achieved to be an exemplary person of her lifetime. Our main thesis in this article is that she was an extraordinary writer who was able to motivate and influence her readers with her novels, reports, and articles.
