Denetim odağı kişinin olayları yönlendirme odağı biçiminde açıklanabilir. Bir çok kişilik özelliği gibi denetim odağının temelleri de çocukluk yıllarına dayanmaktadır. Çocuğun günlük olaylardaki davranışları sonucu anne-baba ve öğretmeni gibi yakın çevresindeki kişilerden aldığı ödül ve cezalarla denetim odağı eğilimi belirlenebilmektedir. Çocuğun annesi onun doğumundan itibaren bakımı, eğitimi ve sağlığı gibi sorumlulukların en büyük kısmını yürüten kişidir. Araştırma çocukların denetim odaklarında sosyo-ekonomik düzey, cinsiyet, kardeş sayısı,doğum sırası,anne-baba öğrenim düzeyi gibi değişkenlerin farklılık yaratıp yaratmadığını belirlemek ve çocukların denetim odakları ile algıladıkları anne tutumları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda çocukların denetim odakları puan ortalamalarında, cinsiyet, anne öğrenim düzeyi ve koruyucu anne tutumunun önemli bir farklılığa neden olduğu saptanmıştır.

Locus of control may be taken into consideration as an individual guiding way of event. Like many of the characteristic properties, the fundamental of control is also based on the individual’s childhood. Rewards and punishment are given to children by their parents, teachers and others in the manner of the locus of control. A mother of a child inevitably finds herself in locus of control, for she has had many responsibilities in bringing up her children since the date of the brith. This study aims to research the relationship between children’s locus of control and the perception of mother attitudes. The results of this study showed that there was no difference between the children’s locus of control and social economical levels, number of siblings, fathers’ educational levels and birth order. However, there was difference between the children’s locus of control and mothers’ educational level. Moreover, there was no relationship between the children’s locus of control and democratic and oteterian mother. There was significant relationship between the children’s locus of control and protective mother.
