Status of probiotic product consumption of university students

Abstract: 120 boys and 120 girls, 240 students in total, who live in government dormitories, were included in this study carried out to determine status of probiotic product consumption of university students in November- December 2006. It was found that 45.4% students did not know anything about probiotic product. 29.2% of boy students and 42.5% of girl students stated that they consumed probiotic products (p<0.05). The incidence of probiotic product consumption was higher at girls (p<0.05). It was determined that 88.4% of those consuming probiotic products consumed these products willingly, 79.1% were affected by advertisements, 61.6% read the labels on products and 84.9% benefited from these products. It is considered that studies to be conducted to increase the consumption of probiotic products would have positive contributions in health and nutrition
