Bu çalışma aile terapisinin tarihsel ve teorik temellerini sistem yaklaşımı ışığında ele almaktadır. Aile toplumun temel çekirdeği olarak içinde bulunduğu toplumun bütün özelliklerini taşır. Bu doğrultuda sorunları aileyi de etkiler. Aile danışmanları ve profesyonellerin aileye yardım sürecinde teorik ve pratik temellerini sürekli olarak geliştirmeleri gerekir. Aile terapisinde genel sistem kuramı bireyi bir sistem içinde karmaşık bir varlık olarak ele alır. Bu yaklaşımda aile danışmanları aile sisteminin bir parçası olarak direkt müdahale edilebilir.

 In this study, historical and theoretical foundations of family therapy are examined onthe basis of the system cpproach. Famity, asa basic unit of society, shares many characteristics of the society in which it lives. In this context, social problems affect the family, too. Family consultants and professionals should develop their theoretic and practical skills continuously in order to be qualfied enough in the family therapy process. General system theory in its cpproach to family therapy,considers an individual as a complex entity of a system. In this approach, family consultants are expected to intervene more directly  as a part of the family system.
