II. PÖN SAVAŞINDA DENİZ GÜCÜNÜN ETKİSİ

İnsanoğlu tarihin her döneminde yaşadığı çevreye egemen olmak istemiştir. Bu bağlamda iki yaşayışlı bir canlı olarak nitelendirilebilecek insan, temel teknolojik gelişmeleri sağladıktan sonra denizlere de hâkim olmaya çalışmıştır. Roma Cumhuriyeti de kuruluşunu takip eden yıllardan itibaren denizlere ilgi duymuş ve bunun neticesinde Batı Akdeniz'deki en büyük siyasi rakibi olan Kartaca ile karşı karşıya gelmiştir. Roma, I. Pön Savaşında Kartaca'yı yenilgiye uğratmış ve büyük oranda Batı Akdeniz'e egemen olmuştur. II. Pön Savaşı öncesinde Roma'nın deniz egemenliğini sağlamış olması savaşın genel gidişatı üzerinde Roma açısından önemli bir katkı sağlamıştır.

The Influence of Sea Power on the Second Punic War

Throughout the history humankind wanted to dominate the environment that he live in. In this perspective human which can be described as amphibious, after reaching a certain level of technological advancement, tried to dominate the seas. Beginning from its foundation, Roman Republic also interested in the seas and as a result of this particular interest, the Romans faced the Carthaginians as their main rivals in the Western Mediterranean. Rome managed to defeat the Carthage in the first Punic War and dominate the Western Mediterranean. The Roman control of the sea before the war had crucial effect on the course of the second Punic War.
