Kumkapı Ermeni Olayı (1890)

II. Abdülhamit döneminde Ermeniler İstanbul ve Anadolu'nun bir çok yerinde olay ve isyanlar çıkarmışlardır. Bu olayların amacı Ermenilerin muhtar veya müstakil bir Ermenistan kurulması içindi. Bu olayların çoğu yüzeysel olarak ele alınmakla beraber münferit veya detaylı olarak ortaya konmamıştır, Ermenilerin Anadolu'da çıkardıkları ilk olay Erzurum vakasıdır. İstanbul'da ise Kumkapı olayıdır. Bu çalışma Ermenilerin II. Abdülhamit döneminde Osmanlı'nın başkenti İstanbul'da çıkardıkları ilk olay Kumkapı Ermeni Olayı (1890) olup bu bakımdan çok önemlidir. Kumkapı Ermeni olayı İstanbul'un Fatih tarafından fethinden sonra ilk defa bir gayr-ı Müslim unsurun Osmanlı aleyhinde bir olaya sebebiyet vermesidir. Dolayısıyla bu konu detaylı olarak ele alınmakta; olayın sebebi, oluş şekli, olayda rol alan kişilerin amaçlan, Osmanlı hükümetinin aldığı tedbirler, olayın sonuç ve Osmanlı ve Avrupa kamuoyunda yarattığı tesirler Ermeni meselesi bağlamında ortaya konmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın ortaya konmasında hem Osmanlı, hem de İngiliz Arşiv kaynakları kullanılmıştır.

The Armenian Incident at Kumkapı in 1890

The Armenians made several uprisings both in the capital, Istanbul, and in various towns in Anatolia during the time of Abdülhamit the Second. The object of these events was to establish an autonomous or independent Armenia. These events have been studied in general but not individually in detail. The first event created by the Armenians in Anatolia was that in Erzurum in 1890, but that of its kind in the capital was the event in Kumkapı in 1890. This paper is to deal with the event which took place in Kumkapı in Istanbul in 1890. This event was unique as it had been the first one caused by the non-Muslims against the Ottomans since the conquest of Istanbul by the Sultan Fatih. So this subject has been studied and the details about the reasons for this event, the mode of happening, the aims of the events' participants, the measures taken by the officials to prevent this event from spreading, its results, and the echos both in Ottoman and Europe from the view of the 'Armenian Question'. The Ottoman and British archival materials have been used for this paper.
