Bu makalede İstanbul’un kuşatılması ve fethi sırasında şehirde yaşananlar vehalkın psikolojik durumu ele alınarak olayın Bizans cephesinden arka planı incelenmiştir.Bu kapsamda çağdaş Bizans kaynaklarının, özellikle de kuşatma boyuncabizzat İstanbul’da bulunan imparatorun en yakın adamı Francis’in kayıtları ile busırada tesadüfen şehirde bulunan ve savunmaya katılan Venedikli gemi doktoru NicolòBarbaro’nun bu süreçte şehirdeki psikolojik durumu da yansıtan gözlemleri önemlidir.Özellikle bu iki görgü tanığının ifadelerine dayanmakla birlikte, Bizans kayıtlarınınışığında Bizans cephesinden İstanbul’un fethi değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır.

This article discussed the background of the Byzantine aspect of the siege andconquest of Istanbul. The examination of this event takes the psychological situationof the Byzantine people into account. In this context, it is important to referto and observe contemporary Byzantine sources, including the records of Francis-the man closest to the emperor- who was in the city during the siege. In addition, itis crucial to consider the information available from the Venetian ship doctor whocoincidentally happened to be in the city at the time and participated in the defenseusing Nicolò Barbaro’s observations reflecting the psychological situation in thecity. In its evaluation of the conquest of Istanbul from the Byzantine aspect, thisarticle takes into consideration these Byzantine records, paying special attention tothe firsthand observations of the aforementioned eyewitnesses.
