Evaluation of The Clinical Competence of Dentistry Students and Comparison of The Complications Encountered During Tooth Extraction
Objective: In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the competence, clinical skills, knowledge and attitudes of dental practice in the fourth and fifth-grade dental students in Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic.Material-Method: The success/failures of the fourth and fifth-grade students during tooth extraction in Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic were evaluated using five items. Results: Gender, causes of tooth extraction, and oral hygiene variables are distributed homogeneously to study groups. There were statistically significant differences in the rate of complications occurring during tooth extraction in terms of fourth grade (16/42) and fifth-grade (7/42). Conclusion: Competence is a complex skill that is required for the graduate student to start an independent, unchecked, dentistry practice. Students should have knowledge about the process which has theoretical knowledge but has limited clinical or practical experience. It is thought that the extraction of the teeth is a basic clinical skill which should be qualified by dentists. Efficient assessment of clinical ability and the ability of students to improve their qualifications before graduation and to provide high-quality health care services are required.
