Belirgin fonksiyonel bölgeleşmesi ile teleost hipofizi, endokrin yollarla düzenlenen fizyolojik süreçlerin tanımanmasında pekçok avantaj sağlar. Daha ileri araştırmalarda kullanılabilecek temel bilgilerin elde edilmesi için Lebistes reticulatus'da (Poeciliidae, Teleostei) hipofizin histolojik yapısı ışık mikroskobu ile incelenmiştir.

Some histological observations on the hypophysis of Lebistes reticulatus (Poecilidae, Teleostei). By its prominent, functional zonation, teleost hypophysis offers many advantages for determining some endocrine-regulated physiological process. In order to maintain the basic knowledge which would have been used in advanced researches, the histological structure of the hypophysis of Lebistes reticulatus (Poecilidae, Teleostei) was investigated by light microscope.
