İzmir’in Temsilinde Fotoğraf

Bu araştırmanın bağlamı, fotoğrafik temsil kavramı etrafında oluşmuştur. Araştırma materyali olarak “İzmir’in Dünü Bugünü” fotoğraf sergisi incelenmiştir. Sergi, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi tarafından İzmir’in kurtuluşunun 100.yılı anısına gerçekleştirilmiştir. Projenin planlanması sürecinde, karşılaştırması yapılacak 19. Yüzyıl İzmir fotoğrafları araştırılmıştır. Dönemin İzmir’ini anlatan çok sayıda fotoğrafik kayıt bulunduğu görülmüştür. Akdeniz Medeniyetleri Araştırma Enstitüsü’nün, 1997 yılında yayınlamış olduğu 19. Yüzyıl İzmir Fotoğrafları kitabı üzerinden çalışılmaya karar verilmiştir. Araştırmanın arka planı, kitabın içindeki fotoğraf ve kartpostallardır. Sinoptik bakış ve düşünüş yöntemiyle, İzmir yorumlanmıştır. Bugünün İzmir’inin fotoğrafları çekilirken, mümkün olduğunca fotoğrafı çekilen mekanların dününe ait fotoğrafik teknik performans gösterilmeye çalışılmıştır. Fotoğrafların sunumu ayrı bir tasarım olarak düşünülmüş, temsil açısından estetik sanatsal yeni bir öneri olarak sergilenmiştir. Yanı sıra sergi, farklı disiplinlerin yararlanacağı verilerin ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Bu projenin eksik kalan kısmı akademik metin üretimi olarak görülmüş, bu çalışmayla tamamlanmıştır.

Photography in the Representation of Izmir

The context of this research was formed around the concept of photographic representation. As research material, the photography exhibition "İzmir's Past and Present" was examined. The exhibition was held by Dokuz Eylul University in memory of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir. 19th century Izmir photographs to be compared were researched during the planning process of the project. It has been seen that there are many photographic records describing the Izmir of the period. It was decided to work on the 19th Century İzmir Photographs book published by the Mediterranean Civilizations Research Institute in 1997. The background of the research is the photographs and postcards in the book. İzmir has been interpreted with the synoptic view and thinking method. While photographing today's Izmir, the photographic technical performance of the past of the places photographed was tried to show as much as possible. The presentation of the photographs was considered as a separate design and presented as a new aesthetic artistic proposal in terms of representation. In addition, the exhibition provided the emergence of data that different disciplines will benefit from. The missing part of this project was seen as the production of academic texts and was completed with this study.
