Analysis of Centre of Pressure in The Standing Position in Young Adults withDown Syndrome

The two purposes of the study were to analyze Centre ofPressure (COP) behavior in a standing position in a groupof young adults with Down Syndrome (DS) in different visual conditions, and to compare the results with a controlgroup (CG). All participants were a part of a dance trainingprogram. There were 11 young adults with DS, six femalesand five males, aged 20.5 (1.3) and 12 non DS adults, eightfemales and four males, aged 20.3 (2.0). All participantswere previously studied related to an anamnesis andphysical exam. Bipedal standing position was evaluated inclosed eyes and open eyes conditions for 30 seconds. Datawere collected relative to COP from the platform (AMTI- SGA6-4): sway area, anteroposterior and mediolateraldisplacement, and also maximum displacement excursion.Differences in all parameters were compared betweenboth groups using Mann-Whitney U test. Wilcoxon test was applied to compare differences between open andclosed eyes in both groups. Significant differences werefound (p
