Factors Affecting Quits and Dismissals (An Empirical Study on a Sample from a Chemical Factory)

This paper investigates factors affecting quits and dismissals, based on data from a chemical factory in Istanbul, Turkey. Logistic regression results indicated that the odds of being dismissed from their jobs for female employees were approximately 2.9 times higher than male employees. Secondly, workers older than 34 years were found to be 6 times more likely to be dismissed compared to those who were 34 years old or younger workers. Moreover, the risk of quitting among employees without a university degree was nearly 2 times greater for those who had a university degree. Also, the findings suggested that tenure significantly increased the odds of being dismissed. Similarly, the odds of white-collar employees leaving their jobs were distinctly higher than blue-collar employees. Finally, the results illustrated that workers were found to be more likely to separate between January and June.
