Bulgular: 60 diin 45’i palatinal, 15’i ise bukkal pozisyondadr. Anahtar

Assessment of the localization of impacted maxillary canines on panoramic radiographs

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the localization of impacted maxillary canines on panoramic radiographs. Methods: Panoramic radiographs of 60 subjects with 60 impacted maxillary canines were analyzed. The angulation of the long axis of the impacted canine to the horizontal plane was measured. The measurements were used to predict the localization of the canines (buccal or palatal) and were compared with the specified position during surgery. Results: Of the 60 teeth, 45 were at the palatal position and 15 were at the buccal position. The angulation of the impacted canines in the buccal group was 64.85º±18.97º ( range, 18.93º-86.31º ) and in the palatal group was 40.64º±13.13º ( range, 12.96º-69.19º ). There was statistically significant difference between two groups. Conclusion: The angulations greater than 60º were more likely reflected buccally impacted maxillary canines compared with palatally impacted maxillary canines.
