Cavernous hemangioma of the lower lip: a case report

Hemangiomas are benign neoplasms of proliferated endothelial cells and they present as red or blue – purple lesions which are localised in subcutaneous or submucosal tissue. 60% of the lesions presents in the maxillofacial region and they are most commonly found on the lips, tongue and buccal mucosa. Although hemangiomas usually appear at infancy and childhood, they may rarely present at birth or adults. The treatment plan established for hemangiomas must consider aspects such as size, location, length and lesion hemodynamics, patient’s age and viability of the technique to be used. Systemic corticosteroids, sclerotherapy and surgical exicison are the most common treatment methods for hemangiomas. This case report presents the surgical excision of a cavernous hemangioma of the lower lip in 60-year- old male patient.
