Sister Mary Joseph s Nodule Mimicking Umbilical Hernia-A Case of Report
Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule(SMJN) is usually seen as metastatis of gastrointestinal tumours on umbilical region It is usually diagnosed on postoperative follow period of a known primary cancer, but it is sometimes the first sign of an unknown cancer , so it must be differentiated from benign conditions like umbilical hernia. Here we report a case of 65 years old male patient was operated for colon adenocarcinoma. On postoperative period an umbilical nodule is detected which it is firstly misdiagnosed as an umbilical hernia , however it is pathologically confirmed as SMJN. It is an old physical sign but its importance is still high for postoperative follow and survival for cancer patient. For prediagnosed cases this sign must alert the physician for an accurate diagnose .
