Huzursuz bacak sendromu

Restless legs syndrome

Restless legs syndrome is a common disease characterized by uncomfortable or unpleasant sensations which is needed to move the legs urgently. Recent epidemiological studies reported the prevalence of this disease up to 10%, with a female preponderance. Symptoms often occur at rest in the evening or at night and are alleviated by moving the legs or walking. Today, the etiopathogenesis is still completely unknown. However, the rapid and dramatic improvement with the dopaminergic agents suggest that the basic mechanism is the dopaminergic system dysfunction. Pharmacological treatment should be preferred to those patients who suffer from the impairment of sleep or life quality. Dopamine receptor agonists, especially pramipexole and ropirinole, are the first line drugs.
