HYDROGEN PRODUCTION BY INCREASING ALUMINUM CORROSION IN SODIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION

Nowadays, due to shortage in the supply of fossil fuels, and environmental pollution caused by the usage of those fuels, hydrogen is shown as an alternative to those fuels. In this study, the reaction of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution with aluminum, which is one of the environmentally friendly and economic hydrogen production technologies, was investigated. This process operates on the basis of aluminum corrosion. Aluminum, NaOH, and water used as raw materials herein are quite cheap compared to raw materials used in the other hydrogen production processes encountered. In this study, it was observed that hydrogen production rate was increased with increasing NaOH concentration and reaction temperature.
