Türkiye'de üniversitelerde üst düzey kadın yöneticilerin karşılaştıkları kültürel ve yapısal engeller

Bu araştırmada temel amaç, Türkiye'de üniversitelerde üst düzey kadın yöneticilerin karşılaştığı kültürel ve yapısal engelleri incelemektir. Makalede, sekiz ülkenin karşılaştırıldığı kültürlerarası bir araştırmanın Türkiye bulguları sunulmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında Türkiye'nin yanı sıra Avustralya, İrlanda, Yeni Zelanda, Portekiz, Güney Afrika, İsveç ve İngiltere yer almaktadır. Her ülkede araştırmacılar, kadın/erkek önceki ve bugünkü Rektör, Rektör Yardımcıları ile en az yirmi olmak üzere yüz yüze görüşmeler yapmıştır. Görüşmelerde sekiz ülkeden araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen soru formu kullanılmıştır. Makalede Türkiye'de üniversitelerde kadın/erkek Rektör ve Rektör Yardımcıları ile bizzat yapılan yirmi dört yüz yüze görüşme yanıtları özetlenmiş, üst düzey kadın yöneticilerin karşılaştığı kültürel ve yapısal engeller analiz edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, belirlenen bu engelleri ortadan kaldırmaya yönelik çözüm önerileri geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır.

Structural and cultural barriers for women in senior management in Turkish Universities

The main aim of this paper is to examine the structural and cultural barriers to women being effective, managers in Turkish universities. This paper is a part of a multi-country study in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, examining cross cultural perspectives of gender and management in Higher Education Institutions (HEI). Investigators in each country conducted up to 20 interviews with both male and female senior managers, including current and former Rector, Vice Rector. The focus of this paper is the Turkish universities. De-identified summaries of Turkish case are analyzed. 24 interviews were conducted in Turkey. As a conclusion, the paper explains the solution suggestions for structural and cultural barriers to women in senior management in Turkish universities.
