Developments in automotive technologies increased the number of automobiles in use and caused an explosion of energy consumption and demand. As a result of this demand, efficient use of the world energy resources became extremely important. One of the many ways of using the energy resources efficiently is to minimize losses at operation conditions. The forces acting on a car are sources of energy loses. One of the forces is the rolling resistance of tires. Significant fuel economy can be achieved by a good understanding of the effects of operation conditions (temperature, pressure, speed, load, etc) on rolling resistance. In this study, determination of rolling resistance and standard test techniques, SAE J1269/70 were reviewed, the most important parameters effecting the rolling resistance were studied.
