Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Teachers

The purpose of this study is to determine how much the teachers behave according toorganizational citizenship process in their schools. Organizational citizenship behavior isabout sportmanship and alturizm, it is not a formal compulsative process. To define abehavior as an organizational citizenship one, it must not to be gifted or punished directly orindirectly in an organization. These kind of behaviors represent the activities that develop thefunctions of organizations as a wholeperson.In Republic of Turkey, it is a traditional and historical reality that teachers, principlesand other staff in a school environment have experienced the organizational citizenshipbehavior by working days and nights. Organizational citizenship behavior consists ofpreventing the organization from distructive behaviors, improving the skills and capacities,structuring an effective and common network among the staff. All of the staff need tocontribute to this process. In that sense, organizational citizenship behavior is related togeneral performance of an organization.The samples of the research are 719 teachers who work in different educational levelsin Istanbul in 2002-2003. In the research, reliability value is counted as CroanbachAlpha=0,9593.Five sub-dimensions are resulted from the factorial analysis. In the analysis of thedatum, while getting the information of teachers about organizational citizenship behavior, theaverage was given and “t” value. If the opinions between and in the groups have differences,Tukey HSD and LSD tests have been given to find out the resources of the differences. In theend, all of the datum is expressed and discussed in the tables.Key Words : Organizational citizenship behavior, alturizm, sportmanship.
