This essay indicates that the duality of self and no-self, one being from the Western concept of self and the other from the Eastern concept of no-self, does also exist in the legacy of the Western thought. Therefore, the idea that the conception of no-self is characteristic of Asian religions may only be partially true. This duality gains a more reasonable ground when it is perceived as being not in between East and West but in between religion and psychology. On the other hand, contary to what Jung thought about the case, the conceptions of both religion and psychology concerning self point out the same pschological state, though expressed with different terms.
