ERDEM MUTLULUK İÇİN YETERLİ MİDİR? RÂGIB EL-İSFAHÂNÎ’DE DIŞSAL İYİLER PROBLEMİ

Dışsal iyiler problemi, mutluluğun bileşenlerini tespit bağlamında ortaya çıkanve en temelde “erdem mutluluk için yeterli midir?” sorusuna cevap arayan felsefîbir meseledir. Elinizdeki makale, bahsi edilen problemi klasik dönem İslamahlâk felsefesinin önde gelen filozoflarından Râgıb el-İsfahânî’nin (ö. XI. yüzyıl)eserleri çerçevesinde incelemektedir. Makalenin vardığı sonuç, İsfahânî’ninerdemleri mutluluğun gerekli fakat yeterli olmayan bileşenleri şeklinde değerlendirdiğive o nedenle de mutluluğa erişmek için “dışsal iyiler” olarak isimlendirilenerdem dışı unsurlara da farklı düzeylerde birtakım roller biçtiğidir.

IS VIRTUE SUFFICIENT FOR HAPPINESS? THE PROBLEM OF EXTERNAL GOODS IN RĀGHIB AL-ISFAHĀNĪ

The problem of external goods is a philosophical issue that unfolds when one tries to determine the components of happiness and seeks an answer to the question of “Is virtue sufficient for happiness?” This article analyzes this problem within the scope of the works by Rāghib al-Isfahānī (d. XIth Century) -one of the most prominent philosophers from the classical period of Islamic ethics. I argue that al-Isfahānī considers the virtues as necessary but not sufficient components of happiness. In return, he assigns various roles to the non-virtue elements, which are called “external goods”, on the pursuit for happiness.
