“Borges’in” Özne Çürütmesi

Bu çalışma, Jorge Luis Borges’in Öteki Soruşturmalar ismiyle 1952’ de yayınlanmış denemelerinden “Zamanın Yeni Çürütülmesi” nin yakın okumasını sunuyor. Orijinal makale birbirinden farklı anların özdeşliği düşüncesi üzerinden özneyi ve zamanı yadsıyor. Bu çalışma ise orijinal argümana tümüyle sadık bir biçimde odağa özneyi ve böylece de yazarı yerleştirerek meseleyi tekrar tartışmaya açıyor. Bu tartışmaya orijinal makalede de olduğu gibi Berkeley ve Hume’un fikirleri eşlik etmektedir. Bu fikirleri tekrar ele alma düşüncesinin ardındaki motivasyon Borges’in fikirlerini çürütmek ya da yeni fikirler ile desteklemekten çok, Borges’in tüm yazınına nüfuz eden – tam da öznenin yitirilmesi üzerinden yazma fiilinin faillerini yazma ediminde birleştiren – kuramsal yapının ortaya konulduğu bir yazma performansı olarak anlaşılabilir.

“Borges’” Refutation of the Subject

This essay presents a close reading of Borges’s “A New Refutation of Time” published in his essay collection Other Inquisitions, in 1952. The original article undermines the notion of subject and that of time through the idea of the identity of different moments, whilst this work readdresses the discussion by bringing the subject and thus the writer into focus in a way entirely faithful to the original argument. Just as in the case of the original paper, the discussion is accompanied by the ideas of Berkeley and Hume. The motivation behind readdressing these ideas is not to refute Borges’s ideas or to support them with new ones; rather, the motivation can be understood as a writing performance where the theoretical structure influencing the whole literature of Borges, which unites the agents of the act of writing in the act of writing by undermining the notion of subject, is put forward.
