Türkiye’de 1941 yılında yasalaştırılan Arapça ezan okuma yasağı, Demokrat Parti’nin iktidara gelişi ile 1950 yılında ortadan kaldırılmıştır. Yasağın kaldırılmasından kısa bir süre önce Kıbrıs’ta Şeyh Nazım Kıbrısî tarafından okunan Arapça ezan, Kıbrıs Türk Basını’nda yıllarca sürecek olan ezan dili tartışmasını da başlatmıştır. Çalışmada, Kıbrıs’ta yaşanan ezan dili ile ilgili tartışmanın gerçek boyutları, basındaki değerlendirmeler ve bunların Türkiye’deki gelişmelerle bağlantısı çerçevesinde incelenmektedir

The calling of Moslems to prayer in Arabic was prohibited in Turkey in 1941. This prohibition was eventually abrogated with the accession to power of the Demokrat Parti Democratic Party in 1950. However, in Cyprus a short while before the abrogation Şeyh Nazım Kıbrısî performed the call to prayer in Arabic and launched a debate that would last for years among the Cypriot media regarding the language of the call. This study will analyze developments concerning the language of the Moslem call to prayer in Cyprus through an examination of those discussions and assessments concerning the call which appeared in the press, the relationship between these discussions and developments in Turkey, and how the discussions on the language of the call to prayer grew to questioning the regime
