Molybdenum and enzimatic functions for animals

Molybdenum (Mo) is a essential trace element of animals and it is a component of Molybdenum cofactor complex. Molybdenum cofactor is an organic complex structure which consist of Molybdenum and pterin and referred to as molybdopterin (Mo-pterin). Molybdenum cofactor plays an important role as active centre in Xanthine dehydrogenase/oxidase, Sulfite oxidase and Aldehyde oxidase enzymes which catalyzes the metabolic reactions of sulfur, nitrogen, carbon cycles and basic metabolic reactions in the body. There is no clinical sings in Molybdenum deficiency theoretically. Nevertheless, in case of Molybdenum deficiency, reproductive retardation, anemia, increase in incidence of oesophagal cancer, death at young age, anoreksia, neurological disorders, ocular lens dislocation, high mortality of mother of death new borns were pronounced. But it has no characteristic symptom. There is an antagonistic-action between Mo and Cu. Related to this interrelation, there is Cu toxication symptoms in case of Mo deficency, and there is Cu deficiency symptoms in case of Mo toxication. There is also important interrelation between Mo and S like interrelation between Mo and Cu.
