The effect of dietary silicon on metabolism in laying hens
In this study, the influences of dietary silicon on body weight, egg production, egg weight, egg specific gravity, egg shell quality and some blood parame¬ters were investigated in hens. Silicon of 300 mg/kg was added into the diet of experi¬mental group. Control and experimental groups were fed ad libitum, and experimental period was 40 days. In Days 1,20 and 40, blood and egg samples were collected from both groups, and the animals were weighed. In experimental group, serum concentrations of urea, creatinine, total protein, to¬tal lipid with egg weight and egg specific gravity did not change, however serum cal¬cium and phosphorus levels (p < 0,01) with egg shell quality increased (p < 0,01). The main differences were found between control and experimental group in egg shell quality with serum urea and calcium levels.
