Edebiyat Fakültesi Sosyoloji Bölümü öğrencilerinin düzenlediği ve iki gün süren “Ellili Yıllara Bakış” konulu toplantının, son konuşmasını yapmak üzere görevlendirilmiş olmaktan büyük memnuniyet duyuyorum. Hemen belirtmeliyim ki, bugün Edebiyat Fakültesinde asistan olarak göreve başlayışımın 43. yılını doldurmuş bulunuyorum ve bu tesadüf de, beni ayrıca memnun etmektedir. 

In this text the progress of Turkey in 50's up to present is discussed on the basis of demographic and historical facts and personal memories in general outline. With this argument the general picture of Turkey and university of 1950's is tried to be presented. The evaluation regarding university is done by considering the general development of Turkish university and all the universities during that period. Furthermore, distribution of population and increase according to years of Turkey, the picture of Turkey's import and export are the other data that used to complete the image of 50's. This text is formed by the writer's memories and observations of those years besides the picture that is on the bases of wide range of information regarding Turkish universities, Turkey.
