A Problem of Naming: Religious Counseling

Religious counseling has emerged out of the application field in the West, which is predominantly Christian. The name of religious counseling, which is the result of a restricted conceptualization, faces the problem of naming in the process of being defined as an area of profession. The long experience of the Western/Christian society in both theoretical and practical aspects has brought with professionalism. Although various title have been given throughout, the naming of the service as religious counseling has been final with regard to professional dimensions. This study deal with how the concept of religious counseling that emerged firstly in the Western/Christian society, is defined and what it means as a profession through a conceptual analysis.  Then, although not yet defined as a profession in Turkey, with reference to some scientific studies conducted under this title in the field of religious education, the problem of naming in this regard is discussed presenting the conceptual dimensions.
